Alcoholism statistics for the United States alone are almost as stagger inducing as alcohol itself.
According to the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse’s alcoholism statistics, roughly 14 million people in the United States are addicted to alcohol. Their alcoholism statistics also indicate that millions more are abusing alcohol. It is estimated that a total of 17.6 million people are either dependent upon or abusing alcohol.
Alcoholism statistics indicate that alcoholism runs most rampant among the young adult demographic, ages 18-29. However, alcohol abuse is hardly limited to adults. Some of the most alarming alcoholism statistics relate to underage drinking: approximately 2.6 million binge drinkers fall into the age range of 12-17.

The NIAAA’s alcoholism statistics extend beyond just numbers dealing with alcohol consumption. The institute has found that alcohol abuse causes 1400 deaths per year, not even counting traffic deaths. Alcohol related traffic deaths? 17,000.
Alcoholism statistics also indicate that alcohol abuse is related to 50,000 injuries annually and contributes to 600,000 assaults. In addition to those assaults, the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse’s alcoholism statistics show that alcohol is a factor in 70,000 sexual assaults.
